The C.R.I.B. has partnered with Good Shepherd Services to assist community members who have fallen behind on their rent because of financial hardship due to COVID-19 apply for the New York State Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP).
What is the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP)?
The Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) assists New York City households who are at risk of homelessness or housing instability because they have fallen behind on their rent because of financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ERAP can provide eligible households rental assistance of up to 12 months of past due rent and for some households, pay up to 3 months for future rent. The program can also provide assistance for up to 12 months of overdue gas and electric bills. All payments are issued directly to the landlord or utility provider. Landlords can submit on behalf of tenants but renter must sign on the applicant certification page. Undocumented residents can apply.
Residents of New York City are Eligible if they:
- Fell behind in rent since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020 AND
- Qualified for unemployment benefits or have lost income and/or have an increase in expenses due to the COVID-19 pandemic; AND
- Have a monthly gross (before tax) household income at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
